I wanted to say a little about the hackers hitting the site. I improved the security and this should reduce this junk. Sorry about the delay in fixing these bugs. Later.
Such a thing as a "lifetime stiffer?" Ha, ha, someone please ask 1325 Dale Drive how long they have lived there.
I used to work for Little Caesar's Centre Pkwy. and 1325 Dale Drive, I swear they were always "stiffers."
The only thing is: It has been 12 years since I worked there. The store isn't even there anymore.

so we call black people "canadians" and canadians cant tip! 2 dollars on a 150 dollar check. ran me like crazy. fuck them. i hope they had a blowout on the freeway when they drive home
I'd like to just say a few notable things. First of all to all you cheap Douche bags that say get a real job and stop whining about your tips. If we did that honey then who the hell would wait on your fat ass, "and it probably is very fat",. Also who would cater to you sir and your entirely self-important over-blown ego. I'm a server in Southern Cali. My service is very good. I'm very attentive and realize I'm there to do a job and not socialize. Now my biggest problem is, that we are now in a recession these d-bags and house biotchs w/kids and fake boobs are tipping from 15-20 to 15-10. Yes we're in a recession but I still have bills to pay and work very hard to ensure you have a good experience. If you're not going to care about my tip then I'll find it difficult not to stand by the server station and drink coffee. Don't tip me at all then Bentley driving cheap mtherfckr. Eat your slop and get the hell up out my fxxxing section. If your bill's 100 dollars and I give you great service try giving at least 15.00 dollars. Its getting worse. Used to be folks would come in for their birthdays and expect the whole staff to sing to them. Now they get a solo from me . . . that's it. You cheap fcks are gonna give me 5% and cut corners? Ok I'll cut corners out o my service then. Have a nice day douchebags.

Just a general statement about tipping. I've never really worked in the service industry and have never had to work for tips, but I know plenty of people who have. I generally tip really well %25-%50 even as much as %100 if I got hooked up with anything. But then there are the times where I have ordered something pretty expensive and just had horrible service. Just because something costs $100 dollars I don't think tip amount should be based on what the price of what was ordered. I'll generally leave a dollar for each alcoholic bevarage that was ordered, if I'm paying at that moment, but then sometimes that ends up being almost a %30 tip, and it might have just been a beer that was poured. Many times I'll wait until the end of the night to tip on that kind of stuff, and leave an appropriate tip then (might be more than $1 per drink, might be a little less, but usually at least %20.) I just think the service industry expects a little too much just because what they are serving has a higher price. I might not tip you the same for $100 worth of sh*t as I would $100 worth of something better. In the end I think it's a ratio of service to product to consumer expectations that earns you the tip you may be looking for. Just my two cents. Good night.
Bethleham PA, Ouch! That is the worst kind of tip, to work your ass off for 1.70. I am sure you would've much rather have never seen the people. Yet, they can always say they tipped you! Ouch!

Great post. Sorry about the hideous customer. I love when they threaten not to ever come back again. Come on, don't they have a clue that we don't ever want them to comeback again? It's like saying, "I'm so mad at you I'm going to do your laundry, mow your ward, and fix your car for free. So there, take that." And we just sit there and say, ok. Well, I hope you put her name in the database so the next server might get a heads up. Really, your post is what this site is all about.
Two things...My Co-Diner tried to pay the bill and I ended up paying it..BTW, I also raised the tip amount!! Yes!!......Second thing. I used to work at this pizza place and people would call and say "Yeah, the last time we ordered we got our pizza and there wasn't very much cheese on it" I was like, yeah, that is why it is the cheapest place in town. We put the exact amount on every pizza, unless we know the person, or it is for us..Also we can put extra cheese on it, but it will cost you.
This lady called the pizza place and said, "We just got our pizza and it wasn't cut." The manager said, "What do you want me to do, send a driver out with a knife?"
I bet Michelle is hot.
FUNNY THOUGHT JUST ENTERED MY MIND, NOT ABOYT TIPS, BUT WHEN I FIRST STARTED I WAS COCKTAIL WAITRESSING, OVER 20 YEARS AGO, PRETTY YOUNG ANS GREEN AT THE TIME, ILL NEVER FORGET WHEN I SPILLED A MARGARETTA ON THIS GUYS PANTS, I MEAN BETWEEN HIS LEGS, HE WAS WITH HIS WIFE, AND WITHOUT THOUGHT I TOOK MY TOWEL AND STARTED WIPING THE STAIN OFF FOR HIM, HIS WIFE ALMOST KILLED ME, IM SURE HE LIKE IT THOUGH, SHE TOOK OVER FROM THERE, I WAS A KID AT THE TIME SWO NO THOUGHT WENT INTO IT AS FAR AS ME CLEANING THE MESS.I WONDER HOW THE TIP WAS???????i guess it depends on who tipped me, the wife or the husband,ha!
We use to get phone calls from people and They would yell in the background..."OKAY, I GOT THE PIZZA PLACE ON THE PHONE, WHAT DOES EVERYBODY WANT?"
What in the Hell are these people in Hoffman Estates ordering that is 100 damned dollars??
Haven't seen anything from the Hacker for awhile....Must be doing the 100 Second Freestyle on the Couch.
What impact did the rest of the World have on the Chinese as far as tippiing goes??? I have heard tipping is kind of a touchy issue in China.
It appears the gov't doesn't like the idea of all that potentially unreported exchange of cash.

B Green retorts:
I am a victiim of a cruel joke. I have NOT been to Bogey's Steakhouse during the entire months of July and August. I am viewed by the work staff as a proper tipper ( I tip 20% because the math is easier) I rarely have a tab in the 90-100 range because I cocktail at Bogey's and that tab would have me doing the knee walk.
To b green. No biggy. I'll take your word for it. But I am a little curious. How did you hear about this site and what made you check to see if you were on the list?
To Michelle/thomaston. Thanks for the encouragement. The more people that know the better the site will get. I thought of putting up a message forum but I'm not sure how much it would get used. It's something to think about. Thanks again.
Ever see 2 & 1/2 men where Charlie was low on money and only gave the pizza guy two bucks? The pizza guy just looks at him and says, "Well...we had a good run."
so i recently just started working at a different applebee's in a different town and the tips are TERRIBLE- it's normal for everyone to sometimes get stiffed, and servers get all excited if they get anything above 15%.
I have been finding it so hard to pay bills that before I never had to think about (at the old place, tips were great). Everyone at this new place says,"yeah, well this town is poor you know"), and I say, "well ppl just shouldnt come out to eat. you are ruining my day and waisting my time."
So I was thinking about writing an op-ed in the local paper saying how ppl honestly should just not go out to eat if you cant afford it, and we would rather lose your lousy business and watch u eat at mcdonalds for the price you can afford than come here!
I dont know what to do. I just worked a double today and was getting miserable tips: like $5-on- a-$65-kind-of-tip . And I know I am a great server personally, and have been told so by many guests and managers.
Anybody have any ideas?
~up here in Washington
Dear Washington,
You could find a more upscale restaurant. Also, you could change your 'venue' a little. In other words..What about room service at a nice hotel, or steak delivery. Could you commute to a different town, that has an upscale place to work? I made good money, delivering pizza (in a really good part of town), delivering steaks, and working Room service at the Mariott. I also made good cash working catering gigs on the side.
Also Washingon, Check events in cities nearby. Working at seasonal race tracks, Golf tournaments or anything like that can supplement your income. I know a Bartender that made $3000 in two weeks at a seasonal horse racing track and it was mostly cash.
Where are all of the Lousy comments?
I'll break the quiet streak.
When I was a bellman at a first-class hotel, this gentleman with a BMW X5 SUV, black with leather interior... just gorgeous, would show up about every other week for a night or two on regular business. Every time he showed up, it would be the same routine:
Take his one bag and hanger from the car, cart it up to his room, ask if he needs anything, fill his bucket with ice, give him the ticket for his valet, wish him a good night, park his car, and return to the front door.
Anything missing here...? Oh yeah! Fuckin' tip is non-existent!!! This guy failed to tip any person in the hotel. I don't think housekeeping was tipped whenever he left. I must have seen him about 10 times a summer and not break his wallet out except to grab a credit card to pay his room. Oh how I would have loved to bring his car up front, park it, and kindly remove the steering wheel.
I've in in the hospitality biz for 30 some odd years. You think you've seen it all, then som e idiot doesn't tip, and you realize this business always has something new.
I had a guy come into the bar I was working, and asked the price of quite a few drinks, without ordering any of them. Finally he inquired "Whats the cheapest thing in here?" to which I couldn't help but respond "You mean besides you?"
It felt great!
Unfortunately I think sometimes when people don't tip, they dont realize that the server is making way less than minimum wage, especially in higher end places. I think they assume with the higher price, they must be paying the staff well. Essentially, people that don't tip COST us money, because we are taxed based on our sales. The government assumes we are making income, even when we are not. There should be a mandatory tip to at least cover the tax situation.
I waited on this 10 top the other night. All seemed really nice, I even answered a million questions about the menu. One lady ordered cheese enchiladas. She gets them and then complains because there's too much cheese! What do you expect, they're cheese enchiladas! But I took them back and got her some with less cheese and more sauce. She ate them. Then it's time for the bill. Her husband looks at it and starts screaming that I F***ed his wife over! I kept asking him to calm down and tell me what was wrong but he just kept screaming. Finally, she asked me to take them off the bill, which I did, but not because I thought I should have. Thank god for the automatic 18% grat!
I drove from Laguna Beach to Santa Monica, to deliver a dinning room table and chairs to Sugar Ray Lenard. There was 2 of us, sugar gave us a 5 dollar bill. The drive is 1 hour, 1 way.
I think you service people should start thinking about what you do for a living "SERVICE." You are getting paid by your employer, and then you want a 30% tip!!!. I always tipped over 20% until my credit card was compromised by a waitress while I was on vacation. I know she was the one who used it because it was a card I only used on vacation and I only used in it one place. I reported it to the restaurant and the manager didn't seem interested. Now, I only take cash with me and servers will get tipped whatever I have extra in my wallet at the time.
First, let me say that I put myself through school and raised a child as a waitress and bartender. Overall, it's a thankless and tiring job and those who tip well can really make a server's day/night. Similarly, a lousy (or worse, no tip at all) can really ruin a day/night. We work for peanuts -- and servers have to tip out to busboys & bartenders too; so, a bad night/day can mean it actually costs money to go to work!
Also, people who work as servers don't generally do so because they love the work! Most have families to support; many others are students trying to put themselves through school; some are trying to do both. Like everyone else, sometimes a server is going to have a bad day, sometimes the kitchen screws up a order, sometimes the bartender keeps you waiting for a drink order - all of this is blamed on the server.
For all the customers out there, keep this in mind next time you eat out. The server takes the brunt of everyone else's bad day, but the server is always supposed to have a 'happy face'. Most do the very best they can. I generally tip more than 20% (except to bartenders who usually get paid more per hour and don't have to work as hard for their tips) - even if the server is having a 'bad day' so long as he/she is attentive and trying. But, for those servers who fail to even try to be attentive (or bother taking away dirty dishes), I won't tip 20%. I know how to do the job, and I expect decent service.
That said, I also think it's important to distinguish between a server and a delivery person. I see a lot of posts from delivery drivers that appear to assume a 20% tip is in order for delivering a meal. I have to disagree with that. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't delivery drivers get paid minimum wage? If that's the case, a 20% tip on the total bill is unreasonable - though the further away the delivery, the bigger the tip should be.
Just my 2 cents.
I'd like to say, I am a fairly generous tipper and try to leave around 20% although, I would say more if it is a bargain priced meal and perhaps closer to 15 - 18 percent if it is a high priced meal with drinks. I feel though that if a waiter / waitress chooses to take the automatic large group gratuity option they should be verbally let me know and not hope that it is missed and I refuse to add anything to that amount because in my opinion they didn't trust me enough to cover it on my own. ( Although if it has been exceptional service I will add a buck or two.)
It would seem that poor is due in part to bad quality,
I know for once, (Though I checked the DB for myself.) I carried some cash, and well, the bill ran a little higher than I expected, so I gave what I had left as a tip, $12 tip from a $48 meal.
But the waitress complains and says to me, if you ever tip that poorly again, I'll have you thrown out.
The reason I carry cash though, is because two weeks prior there was an incident about people using credit and debit cards, so to prevent fraud, i took cash.
The following day though, I told the manager about my experiance, and within two weeks time the waitress was fired for misconduct in the restaurant.
Go figure...
Glad I found this site. I have plenty of people that deserve to be on here, and I can assure you they are habitual and will soon find their cheap, sorry rude asses listed here. I love when people tell me how nice/polite/friendly the service is and they will be sure to request me next time, then stiff me. I did have a lady I have to give props to, though, the first time I delivered to her she gave me a $10 tip and told me to remember her name and address in the future. She then called the store to tell the owner how nice the driver was. He said she calls every time she gets a delivery to comment on the staff. Very smart on her part. You can make sure she gets her food before some jackass I know never tips! I usually try to be fair about such things, but I do have my limits.
On the subject of tipping, let me say this to all those who don't realize this-most servers are usually required to tip out 3-6% of their sales (sometimes more) to bussers, servers assistants, bartenders, food runners, hostesses, etc. Even though a server is tipped 15%, they may only get to keep 9% of that. I have sold over $1000 in a shift and walked with $75 after tipping out everyone who supposedly made it possible to give such excellent service, even if I bussed all my own tables, ran all my own food and drinks, etc. Keep that in mind when you are determining how much to tip-that is also why the standard tipping amount has raised in the last couple of decades. Restaurants have found they can raise the standard of service, but make the servers pay for it. Exceptional service is a team effort, make sure to take that into consideration when you figure that tip up. I even know delivery drivers who will tip the cook(s) if they make really good money.
To all going to work today in a restaurant, have a good one!
Let go of your ego. Just because you are a waitress, barista, etc. don't always to expect to get great tips. I can be a Lousytipper. I don't go by a percentage of my bill, that's bs. I go by if you did your job or not, no matter what my bill is. There shouldn't be a certain percentage that lousy waiters get for not doing well at their job. I only tip really well to the people who deserve it and work for the tip. If you forget to grab my drink, or forget to order part of my meal of course I won't tip you. I won't give you even a dollar. If you make little conversation or are a boring person, again I won't tip. Being a waiter/ess, or whoever is your job. You work for your hourly pay not your tips, there is a reason you get whatever amount an hour. Tips are a bonus but are not required to be left. They are something that your clients do because of your services but aren't demanded. I understand if it is a large party of people then you should be tipped. Do not expect everybody to be completely generous for a table of two or three during our time of recession. I tip greatly to the people who remember to bring my drink, or my condiments. I like it when the waiter/ess makes conversation and is casual about talking, but isn't annoying. If you do your job well, I will tip you well. Work for your tips, don't demand them. Get over your pre-Madonna attitudes and stop whining if someone doesn't tip you what you think you're worth. Do your job and do it well. Don't try and get revenge on the people who don't tip, because by us coming to the restaurant or whatever, we are keeping the place alive. If you are a lousy waiter we probably won't come to the restaurant again. But if you make an impression on us about your services then we have the possibility to become regulars. You are the face of the restaurant, don't make it ugly.
Everyone please stop using the recession for an excuse for being a cheap ass when you go out to eat or drink. If that was a viable excuse not to tip people who make less than minimum wage and are taxed on their sales, then next time I get my oil changed, I want a discount b/c we are in a recession. I also want a discount on my banking, dry cleaning, groceries, etc. Also, don't leave a shitty monetary tip and follow it up with a verbal tip unless up plan on calling my utility or morgage comapny and let them know that they should knock x ammount of dollar off my bill b/c "I did such a great job" Cheap is cheap. Recession or not.
Tipping is not a city in China people!!! Love the people who are handling your food! Do these people really want to be nasty to us? REALLY?
To you people who are posting here and have obviously never been a server. Let me give you an education. No one chooses to work for $2.15/hr. They choose to work for tips. Serving as a profession can be just as lucrative as the career you middle management cheapa**es have. Realize that you are not the only table in the restaurant running my ass off because you can't manage to ask for more than 1 thing at a time. I've got a section full of you idiots doing the same thing. I expect good service when I go out as well, but I also take into account what is going on around me. I also take notice when there is another table making my servers life hell because they are douchebags. If your boss calls you over & rips you apart for something that was out of your control, can you walk away chipper & go about your day as if nothing ever happened?? Probably not, you probably wander back to your little cubicle and whine to anyone that will stop & listen. We servers do not have that choice, so when you're being a dick to us for something we have no control over, we engage, we empathize, we try our best to correct the problem because every good server knows that it is not the corporation that pays them, it is the guest. We will go above and beyond to make you happy because you are who pays our bills.
Serving is not the easiest job in the world, even though people like the guy above may think so, it's a balancing act, a mind reading game and a race.
The servers posting on this site are all good servers. If they were crap they wouldn't be on here venting. This site is meant to help people like you can gain a little insight about our point of view.
If you can't afford to tip, stay home. If the recession has gotten the best of you, stay home. However, if you are prepared to spend the money it takes to dine out in public in a restaurant that has a server, then come prepared to tip! If you can't afford to tip then you really can't afford to eat out.
Unbelievable statements...If you can't afford to tip stay home? I am sure if your boss knew you were telling customers to stay home you would be FIRED! No customers means no tips at all....Even low tipper will mean that you restaurant will stay in business so you can still have a job!
What a bunch of whine a**es. With your attitude you don't deserve to be tipped.
Many people are on a very tight budget and only go out once a month. They leave what they can for a tip and you have the nerve to complain? Some kind of tip is better than no tip at all. That couple may have left you their last two dollars you ungrateful whine as**
I would like to see tipping be abolished, as it just makes customers feel uncomfortable. I for one rarely eat out for that reason.
Wow. Can you feel the love?
I have several comments...
First off...we tip hotel maids?? WTF?! Since when?
All right...when I go out to eat, I determine my tip by how well I am served. Yes, I take into account how busy the place is. No, I don't take into account if the food is bad; that's not the server's fault. I usually tip 15%, more for better service, less for worse. If the service is considerably worse, I'll state the reason for the lesser amount.
Having said that...it is my firm belief that the entire system is flawed. Servers should NOT be paid less than minimum wage for their work and tipping should NOT be considered a requirement! This "sharing" of tips is just wrong. I understand that if servers are paid minimum wage, etc, then the price of the meals goes up, but as far as I'm concerned, that's far preferable than feeling that I'm *required* to tip, and feel the need to explain myself if I don't.
A tip is a gratuity, a way of saying "thank you" for a job well done. It should NOT be factored into any meal, whether as an excuse for owners to pay less than acceptable wages, or as some predetermined expectation of service.
The problem is that someone, somewhere, managed to lobby Congress to allow this to happen. Those who are servers in the food service industry should, IMHO, band together and lobby Congress to abolish this ridiculously wrong allowance. Make the business owners pay an appropriate wage, not $2.17/hr!
Oh, and one other thing...unfortunately, there ARE those servers who offer lousy service and still expect to be heavily compensated in a form of gratuity. Such people exist not only in the food service industry, but in every part of business. It is a sad fact that in our wonderful nation, many are growing up with a sense of entitlement which they have not earned.
I get a total laugh out of those ignorants who think they are entitled to good service with no fair compensation. Do you honestly think that if you don't come out, the restaurant will go under? No, because servers and bartenders know who the good tippers are and work hard to cultivate a relationship with that person, ensuring their swift return.
So tightwad, stay home, eat your frozen pizza, drink your canned beer and watch your AMC movies. We don't need you, we don't want you and if you stay away--we all win!
Oh, and to the blogger who said bartenders don't work as hard as servers, you can kiss my @$$. I've worked harder in one night than you probably ever have, making my drinks and yours. Without my drinks, you'd just be an ordertaking food runner.
It has been a long time since I was in the business, but I will never forget how it was to rely on tips. Bottom line, if you can't afford at least 15%, go to Mickey D's.
Wow, I can't be;lieve in this age of identity theft you guy are posting personal name and adresses and where they go. I even see 15% tips on this whining board. There's something wrong with you people.
Wow...you guys are really getting mad at the wrong people. As with every other business in the world, your employer pays you a salary, maybe a bonus based on exceptional service. The people that own the restaurants are they ones making out like bandits. Don't have to pay the staff much and still have them be nice. Definitely not reality.
I was in the service industry for over 11 yrs before I finally got smart and got the h.e.double hockey sticks out. Way to unstable of a wage.
That being said, I am a pretty reasonable tipper. I'f I'm not happy with the service, you're not getting more than 15%...if it's good service, 20% and exceptional service 25-30%, which I believe to be more than far. I also tip on the amount after tax and before any discount coupons have been used. For delivery driver, I usually go form 10-15%...honestly, all they do is drive it over to me, they certainly done set it up and clean up after. Not to mention I very rarely get what I ordered.
Sometimes someone just wants to go out for dinner, but is a little strapped for cash...maybe your restaurant should have something in place to cover that. Unofortunately this is becoming bor of a cashless society and to be quite honest, i don't trust the server to be taking my credit card or debit card anywhere....we've all hear too many stories.
Well, here in Aventura we have some of the most outraegous things in the world as well. Kids like 15 or 16 who only have their money due to their parents are not tipping. It just pisses people off because it is unfair to the servers, since that's how they make all their income, and yes, I am one of them. Also, Jewish people suck at tipping the most.

If you don't like the tips, get a different job. That's what I did, I went back to school, got my degree and I'll tell you my current job is so much better than food service it is unbelieveable. It's not easy, but it's what you have to do. If you don't like your life , either change it or stop complaining. It amazes me how many people here are going off in tirades about the tip they didn't get, well if your tirade is an indication of your attitude, it's no wonder you get bad tips.
I just have to address those who are complaining about server complaining about your cheap tip less attitudes.
Next time you go out to a sit down restaurant, or call and order your favorite pizza etc... Do a couple things, hmm?
Stop and think about everything "you" would have to do to make that sit down meal happen, or to get that pizza delivered to your doorstep. From start to finish.
1st: Decide what you want to eat.
2nd: Go to Grocery Store and buy all the ingredients you will need to make that meal.
3rd: Come home and dirty up dishes to mix, bake, cook and serve all the food you just spent money on to buy from the store.
4th: Wash all the dishes, wipe down the counters and the stove.
Hopefully after working an 8 hour (or longer day) all of the above didnt eat up too much of your spare free "Me" or "Family" time.
Also keep in mind that you probably spent twice what you would have buying the ingredients, burning the gas or using the electricity to prepare, using the water to clean up (and don't forget the extra cleaning supplies like dish soap etc) then add your own hourly pay rate to that cost, as you did indeed have to work to provide that meal for yourself, and dont forget the gas to drive to the store, the wear and tear on your car, the long lines at the store, the red lights and the traffic.
When you go out to eat its so you do not have to waste the time/energy/money to do it yourself. The restaurant provides the shopping & cooking portion of your experience, the supporting staff supplies the service & cleanup for your experience. Those that deliver your food (be it pizza or whatever) have to pay for gas, auto repairs, speeding tickets, insurance, etc.
If you cannot afford to tip appropriately for that steak dinner, you probably could not afford to buy it at the grocery store either. So instead of Steak... Order the Meatloaf... and stop making excuses why you think someones time and effort is not worth a few extra dollars.
No I am not a wait person and haven't worked in the service industry for many years, when I did I was a cook.
I do however have common sense, and a great appreciation for a job well done. I have tipped poorly for extremely bad service (I always leave a note explaining why) and I have tipped excessively for outstanding service (a few times in excess of 100% of the bill), but I have never ever not kept in mind that the people providing that service are just like me. They have bills to pay, children to support, and everything else that's included with having a life.
I work as a server in Indy.Four hillbilly Purdue fans sit at my table.4 shrimp cocktails,3 surf and turfs,1 ribeye,7 coors lites,1 coke(5 refills),9 compliment about what a great job I was doing,@ 2hours later the owner of Gunns Tractor from Layfette paid the bill.$0 on $363.30
Thanks
I typically tip for every service that it is appropriate to tip for. My hairstylist gets tipped, as well as any delivery person or waitstaff. In places where your food is cooked in front of you, I tip the cooks. There is only one time that I have not tipped and that was a few nights ago. We received absolutely lousy service from our waitress, who didn't even tell us her name. She neglected to refill our sodas, brought me the wrong salad (I wasn't being picky, she just brought me the completely wrong one.), and wasn't friendly.
We ate at a buffet-style Mongolian grill restaurant. Basically, someone else sat us down and got us our sodas. Later, she came around and asked if we'd been there before (we had). She asked what we wanted for a soup or salad, then told us that we knew what to do and left the table. In this particular restaurant, the waitresses clear the extra plates and bowls from the tables. A random server (not ours) swung by and cleared our extras for us. Only when it came time for her to hand over the bill was she semi-polite to us. Even then, it took her forever to collect the bill. There was a comment card included in the little folder, so we filled it out and explained what happened and did not leave her a tip. We did, however, leave the cooks a tip in their bucket as they were super friendly, even though they were busy.
I felt bad about not tipping, but I think this is one of the few cases where it would be justified.
Beware of Antonio Osvaldo. He Claims to be a author (CHEFS TO REMEMBER.COM)This man travels around the country scamming free meals, hotel rooms and anything else he can get for free. He is uneducated, and very rude. I have researched his so called book (which he has yet to write) and could not find a single Chef that he has alegedly interviewed that will confirm these interviews. His homemade website is a joke. The photos seem to be real but nothing that any person attending a book signing could not get.. BEWARE!! This person should be locked up!!!
Okay everybody here is how it works. The customer is paying for the food.
If you don't wanna tip then go to a restaurant where you can stand in line place your order and receive your food.
If you wanna sit you ass down, relax with a friends or two go out to a restaurant. I'll be there, I will grab your drinks your dinners, and anything else you need to have a great evening out. But in return I would like to get paid.
I don't come to your job make a mess at your workstation/office or whatever, treat you like your lucky to know me, then take your check on payday.
They have an automatic tip on certain table sizes, because its too much work for no compensation. An d we all know there are stiffers out there. If you are one of them don't give me any excuses because we all know the rules of society and tipping is a societal rule. Just like acknowledging someone you pass in the hallway at work with a simple hello or a smile. If you don't follow these rules then your the one with the failing not the other guy.
Ihave been working in bars and restaurants for almost 20 years. and to make it clear to the people who want to argue about getting a real job or our paycheck: first of all our pay check is required only so the government is guaranteed to get its cut of our earnings. and guess what! the asswume you make at least 10% of all caswh sales and know for a fact that you received your credit card tips so that is what you owe taxes on. Most servers only get check stubs, which is also the number one reason millions of americans between 18 and 40 have no health insurance! paychecks don't allow for the deduction. For once instead of thinking solely about how great your service was, think about how bad your patronage was. Many large restaraunt chains spend a ton of money on training their free labor, a system that is pretty universal in the industry, if we couold just train the &^%$#(*& customers! 15% waws standard for good service in 1992 when the3 pay was still 2.13 an hour! what did you make in 1992 doing your job with with added duties such as making salads, smoothies, lattes, cappucinos, desserts, bread baskets, corking;chilling-pouring bottles of wine all while your taking orders getting 15 refills and closing checks credit and cash. Oh and don't forget the person who has a coupon that requires a manager to do all while you are waiting to leave me $1.50 on your check that started out as a $20 check before your BOGO when you came in 2 hours earlier to have your business meeting in my free conference booth that should have turned twice at lunch!
I've been in the hospitality business for over ten years and I believe it shows what kind of person you really are by how you treat service workers; either by your attitude, tip or lack there of. We have bills to pay and mouths to feed too! With the economy the way it is we have middle aged people coming in for jobs that haven't waited tables since their teenage years. They're getting the jobs before the younger applicants. We do what we have to do to pay the bills, and lately that has not been easy. If you can't afford to tip at least fifteen percent then stay home or hit up a drive thru!!!!!! Gratuity should not be an option. You are paying for a service and we are providing for a salary! We are not puckering up, or putting up with your bullshit for fun!
I understand bad service and not wanting to tip but even when I have a less than satisfactory experience I still tip fifteen percent. That is my minimum. I see that as bad enough. Outsatnding service will usually get twenty five. I've been waiting tables and bartending for a very long time and I just don't get how people can do us that way.. with the multiple refills (without asking), special orders, great attitude, being nice to your annoying children... It goes on and on. TIP YOUR SERVER!
If Your gonna leave me a tip, dont leave me one of your Jesus Pamphlets instead, Jesus doesent Pay my bills.
And yes, those of you that *think* that if you dont tip well after good sevrice, it wont go unnoticed. I cry BS. Ive worked food service for over 15 years, we will sabatoge your stuff, we will ignore you more Next time and proceed to tell ALL of the servers that work with us that your shitty.
Believe it.
Someone asked about the legalities of posting publicly available information on here. I'd say the people listed may have a defamation of character case against the site or person posting. The tone of the site is negative and its purpose is to ridicule and try to cause harm to those the posters deem unworthy of respect. The actions cited were "not tipping or not tipping enough." As tipping is not legally mandatory, the stiffers would have a much stronger case because legally by not tipping they are not doing anything wrong, whereas you are causing them harm by defaming their character based on your own set of morals.
That said, I believe that you should all be focusing your rage on your employers who are too cheap to pay you a fair wage which you richly deserve. It is not fair to fault the customer and not the employer whom you entered into a contract with and who is basically laughing at all of us all the way to the bank. I bet employers LOVE it that all this anger is directed at the customers instead of them.
omg a bone in the walleye pike imagine that! the guy acted like he bit into a dinosaur bone yes i told him sometimes there are bones in fish that are missed while filleting sorry can i get you another dish no thats ok i'll just sit here and stare at my plate and wait for the end of the world so glad the owner did not comp this signature dinner it was well worth the 1.00 tip especially to hear his wife belt out you just lost 2 customers for good yahoo! lol thanks Michael Papasevastos happy trails! BON APETIT
That's the beauty of this site... there's no registration. No specifics if you like, and in the state I live in there's no "defamation of character" or "slander" cases. How retarded! You wish. People who don't tip are either ignorant ( I doubt but some of the people I wait on just boggle my mind! How can you BE so stupid?!) or just assholes you can't please. Hello! Gratuity is a part of that service. IF YOU DON'T OR CAN'T PAY FOR THAT SERVICE HIT UP A MICKEY D'S DRIVE THRU OR YOUR LOCAL BUFFET!... Every waiter/waitress all over the country are paid 2-3 bucks an hour. We can't complain to our employers. Like any one of them would do anything about it. It's been like that forever. Just as TIPPING has been!
Well said. I mean really, how hard is it to cough up a couple of bucks to help out a person that is working hard to make sure your evening goes well. PLEASE!
Had a lot of small tips tonight. Thank goodness for a couple of nice people who gave a little extra. With their help it was a good night.
Like most on this site, I've been serving and bartending for ten years. AND IF YOUR AREN'T IN THE FOOD SERVICE INDUSTRY, PAY ATTENTION... WE DO NASTY, GROSS DISCUSTING THINGS TO YOUR FOOD AND DRINK, IF YOU ARE RUDE, AND IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO TIP. Sorry this happenes all the time, so you better treat the people who handle your food with respect.
To all you kids out there going to prom...been there done that and know your PARENTS gave you money for dinner. I raise two kids and pay my bills. Unlike you. Soo when you come in with a group of friends, order everything practically on menu and then make me run back and forth back and forth and take up my table for about 2 hrs... After that you all stiff me. Do you not realize I had to pay to serve you? Prob not. But that is money I earned and spend on MY children. Shouldn't have to pay for someone elses children to. Plus those 2 hrs you sat there goofing off? I could have had atleast four tables and made money. Next time TIP! I don't know you there for aint about to pay for you to eat
